DESCRIPTION:\nThe 7 Rivers Water Festival is a community event focused on c
 elebrating our shared water resources including lakes\, rivers\, and our u
 nderground drinking water supply! As just one of the fun\, family-friendly
  activities taking place during the festival\, the cardboard boat race is 
 a team-based competition that showcases the creativity and ingenuity of ou
 r local residents\, businesses\, community groups\, and youth organization
 s.\n\nObjectives\n\n- The goal of the competition is for each team to cons
 truct a 'seaworthy' vessel primarily out of cardboard and duct tape.\n- Th
 e boats should be designed to support two (2) team members as they attempt
  to complete the course: from the beach\, around the ski jump\, and back a
 gain.\n- Trophies and prizes will be awarded for both adult (18 and older)
  and youth (under 18) age categories.\n\nAwards\n\n- Swift Dinghy Award: T
 he first team to complete the paddle course\n- Gene Leedy Award: Judges' c
 hoice on most creative cardboard boat design\n- Titanic Award: Judges' cho
 ice on most spectacular cardboard boat sinking\n\nRules for Entry\n\n- Tea
 ms do not have to be a part of an official organization to participate.\n-
  Family and friend teams are welcome!\n- Each team is required to submit a
  $25 entry fee and liability waiver to compete.\n- Each team must have two
  (2) members to act as pilots and attempt to paddle their cardboard boat t
 hrough the course.\n- Teams may have an unlimited number of members assist
 ing with the design and construction of their cardboard boat.Teams may sig
 n up for either the adult or youth age category. NOTE: Adults may assist y
 outh teams with design and construction\, but both pilots must be under 18
  years old to compete as a youth team.\n- A maximum of ten (10) team space
 s are made available for each age category. Registration is on a first-com
 e\, first-served basis.\n- Team pilots must wear either Type 1\, 2\, or 3 
 personal floatation devices (PFDs) during the race. Teams are encouraged t
 o provide their own PFDs\, but event staff can provide PFDs if requested a
 head of time\n\nBoat Construction Rules\n\n- Each team must construct thei
 r own BOAT and PADDLES to compete.\n- Boats and paddles must be constructe
 d primarily from cardboard materials. Materials such as rubber\, foam\, in
 flatables\, wood\, etc. may NOT be utilized to improve the buoyancy of the
  boat.\n- Duct tape\, glue\, and contact cement may be used as adhesives t
 o bind cardboard boat pieces together. However\, coating the underside of 
 boats in waterproof adhesives (e.g. Flex Seal\, rubber cement\, etc.) is p
 rohibited.\n- No motorized propulsion devices may be utilized.\n- Each tea
 m will receive a cardboard boat construction kit one week before the festi
 val date. These kits will include 4 sheets of 4 ft x 8 ft cardboard\; 3 ro
 lls of duct tape\; 1 ruler\, 1 utility knife\, and 2 pencils.\n- Additiona
 l materials may be purchased at the teams' expense to supplement the const
 ruction or decoration of the cardboard boats.\n- Teams are encouraged to u
 se creativity to decorate their cardboard boats. Please refrain from incor
 porating offensive\, political\, or inflammatory designs.\n\n*Event staff 
 reserve the right to disqualify teams that violate these rules. Disqualifi
 cation may include forfeiture of the entry fee and potential bans for futu
 re events.
